Project Black Betty

I am starting to post just to show a body-off restoration of a custom 1970 vw beetle that I am in the process of building.

my plans...

*Flat black paint with a matte clear coat
(like rob dierdek's tahoe)
*Airbag suspension from Airkewld.com
*4" narrowed front end
*Red steel wheels with moon caps
*white wall tires
*all black interior

thats all i have in the works at the moment. as of today (3-18-08) i have the entire car taken apart down to the nuts and bolts. the frame has been polished and the floor pans have been removed. awaiting the shipment of the new floors and then the building begins. i have only had this car for exactly a month and im doing this in a Texas sized 2-car garage.

wish me luck.

here is what she will look like when im done. I made this file in Adobe Illustrator from scratch. all shapes. no photoshop.

check it.

Re: Project Black Betty

Can't wait to see it. You might want to check this sight out. I have used their single stage paint before and the hot rod flat color was awesome. Great price too.http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/ksflatz.aspx

Re: Project Black Betty

good luck with the build. i have a 56 slide rag. 8" narrow kcw airbeam, custom dubsquared air ride on the rear, new pans welded in, 4 wheel cb disc brakes...it's taken over a year and i'm still not driving...one month is quick.

Re: Project Black Betty

The day i got it:

fully intact. motor and all. needs alot of work, but all things considered. its in UNBELIEVABLE shape!! the floors and 2 very small places on the body is all it needs to have replaced. no dents. and all the glass, with the exception of the windshield, is intact. not bad for $400.

Re: Project Black Betty

this is with the frame flipped over, floors removed, and polished. as soon as the floors come in, i'll weld them in and paint the frame. then, polyurethane bushings and new rubber come as the re-assembly starts.

Re: Project Black Betty

Black Betty Updates!

Got the new floors in after dealing with MAMOTORWORKS for being idiots. The chassis has been ready and sitting for months. I hit the floors on both sides with weld-through primer. most of the body guys i know reccommended it just to help with preventing rust over time even though its gonna be hit with seam-sealant and Rust-Bullet paint or Por-15 (havent chosen yet).

hit 'em up!

prepped...

welded on...

Re: Project Black Betty

Looks like a hell of a project. Why did you replace the floors if they were in good shape? The OG german metal is wayyy thicker than the MAMW stuff.

Good luck on the project.

Re: Project Black Betty

I dont think i ever said the floors were in good shape, they were actually in really bad shape. i could see the ground through almost every seam. but they are brand new now and finished, just waiting to order paint for the chassis so i can start putting it back together.

Re: Project Black Betty

got a quick update. Coated the chassis yesterday and wow, did it turn out great. i ordered a paint online that is called RustSeal. its amazing. high gloss black. supposed to be stronger than powder coating. if you do happen to come in contact with it....DO NOT GET IT ON YOU!!! because the only thing that will get it off....is praying and time. im not joking.

Anyway, here is a pic of it coated. i will add some more in a few days after some stuff starts to go back on it.

FINALLY SOME PROGRESS!!!
